Job Description

The Enterprise Information Systems Functional Lead, under the supervision of the University’s Chief Information Officer and in collaboration with the University’s Information Security Officer, provides advanced data protection, integration and support for the University’s enterprise student information systems, applications and mission critical systems. Works with information systems and security team members to maintain and support mission critical systems. Completes analysis, reporting and summarizes results to management and University stakeholders in the form of project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries. Serves as the University’s data protection officer and works with committees to appropriately classify data and ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. Participates in the annual risk assessment process and manages key components of the University’s disaster recovery and business continuity plan. Works daily to ensure that the division of information technology is in full compliance with West Texas A&M University rules and procedures, as well as with the Texas A&M University System, PCI security standards, and/or other standards such as FERPA, copyright protection laws, and the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), Texas Administrative Codes (TAC) 202, information security standards for institutions of higher education. Responsible for all aspects of system security patches and updates, and remains current on networking trends and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advanced design, data protection and oversight for system integration and related support and services for the University’s Colleague student information system and mission critical information systems.

  • Designs Colleague student information system data protection and integration strategies and solutions in conjunction with the chief information officer, the information services team, the information security team, and the software assurance and software life cycle management standards.

  • Works with systems, security analysts and application developers to define system requirements and data protection mechanisms. Ensures that disaster recover, business continuity and testing plans have been developed and implemented prior to upgrades and other releases to prevent system outages and ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

  • Interacts with functional departments to facilitate business process changes and attainment of goals. Ensures that departmental requirements are met. Collaborates with internal committees, external organizations, and vendors. Provides reports, summaries and schedules for management, vendors, and other functional teams.

  • Services as the subject matter expert for enterprise and mission critical information systems data, data classification, data integration and data protection. Coaches project teams within IT and across the campus related to data classification and data protection. Monitors activities of functional team members to ensure project deliverables are met.

  • Performs duties of a functional analyst as needed.

  • Participates in training and professional development sessions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related experience with business processes enterprise information system and related database systems.

  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems, virtualization and related web applications. Working knowledge of enterprise database applications.

  • Knowledge of higher education student information system business processes and University operations.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related experience with Colleague student information systems, related database systems, enterprise data exchanges, interfaces, and cloud-based integration.

  • Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Linux, Microsoft SQL Server and Windows Server operating Systems.

  • Knowledge of Envision and colleague application development.
