Under minimal supervision, provide training in all areas of heavy equipment operation with special emphasis on equipment utilization, operator efficiency and safe operating practices. Provide assistance in development and maintenance of the training curriculum. Maintain training records; submit timely reports and operate within the confines of external contractual agreements. Extensive travel throughout the state is a requirement. Conduct classroom and hands-on training at various locations across the state. Instruction focuses on the safe and effective operation of the following heavy equipment: Asphalt distributor, Maintainer, Telescopic hydraulic excavator, Dozer, Backhoe, Loader, Sweeper, Skid-steer, and Roller (pneumatic and steel). Additional classroom and hands-on training include: Equipment preventive maintenance, Equipment load and tie down, Equipment introduction and safety, and Anti-icing and winter operations. Conduct the highest quality classroom and hands-on instruction. Follow and teach all safety requirements and policies necessary for the operation of the equipment, work site and TxDOT. Enforce safety for all students; act on and report all safety violations to the proper authority. Perform equipment inspections and site evaluations in preparation for classroom and hands-on training. Submit accurate grades, attendance records and travel expenses for each course taught. Communicate effectively both written and verbally. Maintain a high level of professionalism in demeanor, work-style and dress. Comply with all college, state and local procedures, rules and regulations. Secure and safeguard all equipment and training material, to include credit cards furnished by Amarillo College. Employee is responsible to adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy as written. Required to maintain a valid Class C driver s license. Demonstrate a strong work ethic. Must be able to work independently and as a team member. Maintain a commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information, and perform additional duties or job functions required/deemed necessary by supervisory personnel. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to interact with others, perform hands-on instruction while exposed to outside weather conditions, and properly wear all necessary PPE for the safe operation of the equipment and worksite. Employee is required to lift in excess of 45 pounds to prepare for and conduct instruction. Work environment includes frequent and extensive travel throughout the state to conduct classes. Employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions while performing hands-on instruction.
